Journal for Dino Dig 4

(Journal entry for May 23, 2006)
After the hard rain late (yesterday) afternoon
it stopped and the wind died down. This
morning it began to clear up but there were
clouds in the sky. I woke up with a little “sore”
throat—not sure if it is a start of a cold. I did
sleep well last night. Josiah and Ian went up
to scout out the dig site and said it was very
muddy after the rain. Both Joe and Dr. Baugh
said we needed to wait until it got dry. Joe and
Burton went into Vernal (Utah) to get parts
(hoses) for Joe’s four wheeler. The hoses were
starting to wear out. They returned around
11:30 AM. In the meantime Dr. Baugh came
and we made an impromptu movie (David
Lines was the camera man) about the men
and women’s porta potties. Chantell Lines was
in one of the restrooms and several of us men
hauled (by hand) the porta potties by their trailer
tongue around the camp ground. Linda Lines
wanted it placed somewhere that was more
convenient. At the end Chantell emerged
dazed and stumbled out of the movable
restroom. That evening David showed the
unedited film footage—quite funny.

A couple with two children William and
Beverly Rainey came in this morning
and they live in northern Tucson.
William is pastor of the Desert Springs
Baptist Church. We finally returned to the
dig site after lunch about 1 PM and worked
until about 4 PM. Today an small Allosaur
tooth tip was found at the dig site. Dr. Baugh
wanted everyone to become acclimated and
not overdo the physical labor. I do notice the
6200 ft elevation. We were able to get some
of the clay matrix moved and we were finding
more bones in F-2 (besides my F-4). This
evening the group sat around the camp fire
and Dr. Baugh asked Joe (with his guitar) to
sing some of his songs. Joe is quite a prolific
song writer and he has written some
beautiful ballads.
