Journal for Dino Dig 7
(Journal entry for May 26, 2006)
Got up this morning and found it to be a nice day—
a little windy at times, sunny and hot. This morning
we waited on Dr. Baugh to return to camp (he is
staying off site in a cabin in Massadona) to get a
group photo before the Rainey’s left. He finally
came and we were able to take the photo. This
being my birthday the group sang happy birthday
to me. Then we went up to the dig site and extracted
the field jacketed bone block that was prepped
yesterday. Joe made a makeshift slide and shoved
the bone block on it and putted it down the hillside
using Joe’s four wheeler. I took short video clips of
this process. Once we got near the camp site it took
several of us to shove the block to the trailer platform
of Dr. Baugh’s vehicle. After that we came back for lunch.
We spent a longtime at lunch waiting for some cloud
cover to cool the temperature down a bit. Joe held
forth on his desire to start a paleontology school at
the Mt, Blanco Museum in Crosbyton. His audience
was the young people like Josiah, Caitlyn Fitzgerald,
Chantell and several others. Joe’s dream is a
good dream, but without real financial backers it is
probably won't happen for some time, even though Joe has
a museum full of fossils, books and documents. He has
the resources but not the finances. This afternoon about
4 PM I when with Burton Stokes into Vernal and had a
good birthday dinner at the Golden Corral cafe. Got
back and had a very nice time fellowshipping with
the group. Joe played his guitar and Chantell played
her harp. Very sweet time.
