Journal of Dino Dig 2

(May 21, 2006 Journal entry)
This morning I relaxed awhile in the motel in Monticello.
Watched some Christian programs (David Jeremiah,
Day of Discovery-on the DaVinci Code and Charles Stanley).
I got off about 8:45 AM (MT) and drove to Moab.
On the way there was about a half hour stop on US 191,
30 miles or so south of Moab. The Utah Highway Patrol
was apparently looking for someone. This stopped traffic
each way for around a half hour to 40 minutes. At this
delay there was quite a collection of people—young
people throwing a football on the road and another
athlete doing stretching exercises. A local truck
driver explaining local hiking and sight seeing
attractions to a biker couple. A young man I spoke
with was travelling from Arizona to have breakfast
in Moab. I got out my sketch book and did a
drawing of the landscape. Arrived in Moab and
stopped a drug store to buy sunglasses and picked
up a Salt Lake Newspaper with a front page
dinosaur story. Then I traveled to Interstate
70 and then to Rangely via CO139. Didn’t
remember that this was such a mountainous
route. Arrived in Rangely and got gas and a
late lunch around 2:30 PM. The came to the
dig site (on a private ranch) around 4 PM and
got through the cattle gates. Then I put up my
tent—Joe Taylor and the others weren’t there.
It was quite breezy—hope my tent will hold up
to it. The camping site hasn’t changed much.
The old shepherd wagon is still there that is
used for on site storage. Joe Taylor, Burton
Stokes, Ian Juby and Josiah Detwiler came
back around 7 PM.
